Café Fusión Coffee Co. is the result of a lifelong journey of personal growth, travel, and honoring our ancestral roots. In the practical sense, my wife and I started this business because of our love for coffee, improvements in quality and sustainability, and its growing popularity with today’s generation of consumers. As natural explorers, we saw the opportunity to not only learn new skills, like roasting and cupping coffee, but also to be a part of a burgeoning field of study and industry. Anyone in this industry can tell you that the coffee of today is not what it used to be.

Recently, there has been a strong movement towards improvements in sustainability, direct sourcing and traceability, as well as better compensation to smallholder coffee farmers tremendously improving the quality and variety of coffee available on the market. This is due to the efforts of everyone from the farmer to the roaster looking to bring the best possible product to the consumer.

Generally, this coffee is labeled as specialty grade coffee and the achievement of such quality while preserving our coffee heritage and traditions is what truly motivated the creation of Café Fusión.

Coffee is much more than just a product.

But for me personally, it was the first few trips to visit my wife’s country, Colombia, that solidified my love and appreciation for not only coffee but the beautiful land on which it grows and the warm-hearted people that produce it. As a Latino of Puerto Rican ancestry, that first trip brought me back to my family’s roots; a small farm in Yabucoa, Puerto Rico, that belonged to my great-grandfather Miguel – after whom I am partly named – where my grandmother raised my father, and where he learned to be humble and hardworking.

It also reminded me of the stories of my mother growing up on the South American Atlantic coast of a fishing village in Guyana. I saw the same qualities in my wife’s family, in the people wherever we traveled in Colombia, and in the farmers who humbly but proudly gather the coffee harvest each season. Eventually we both had the same realization: that coffee is much more than a product, it's a connection to a way of life, to land, and to people; its heritage and traditions should be protected and cherished.

So, Café Fusión is an amalgamation of coffee cultures and traditions from not only Latin America but throughout the coffee-growing world. We emphasize this by embracing blends rather than just single-origin lots, although we have some superb ones, too. We share some ways to prepare coffee the way we love to make it at home so that you can enjoy our coffee the way we do. You may even be able to find us making coffee locally from our coffee cart.

Lastly, in honor of our roots, we strive to always instill in our brand a celebration of culture, a respect for our coffee farmers, and an appreciation of all you coffee aficionados (enthusiasts/fans/lovers), whose invaluable support allows us to continue sharing our story and coffee with the world.
